Letter from the President

Dear Friends,

As we approach the end of 2013, we thank you for your warm and consistent support. The impact of Share and Care Foundation (SCF) programs accelerating social and economic change in India is built on your compassion and generosity.

In 2013, SCF made great strides in nurturing focused programs. Consistent performance of Educate 2 Graduate (E2G) and Educate 2 Success (E2S) programs reaffirmed that the poorest of the poor have the intelligence, skills, and motivation to rise out of poverty, if given the opportunity and access to equitable resources. This highlights the opportunity to improve the plight of marginalized children and youth. We staunchly believe that access to resources is not a privilege limited to a few fortunate individuals. Our goal is to increase support to our Signature Programs whose impact is measured, consistently proven, and scalable.

Highlights and significant milestones of some of our major programs in 2013:

Signature Program: Educate 2 Graduate

  • 720 students in science-stream degree courses with a yearly investment of approximately $800,000.
  • 100 students have graduated, of which 92% are gainfully employed with starting salaries of $4,000-$10,000 a year, with some pursuing post-graduate courses.

2014 Goals:

  • Increase the number of students to 1,000.
  • Raise $280,000 in additional funds to cover tuition, lodging, boarding, and supplies.

Signature Program: Educate 2 Success

  • 500 tribal students provided with quality education in NE India.
  • The first pilot program was initiated in 2013.
  • Student retention, results, and improved motivation are significant.

2014 Goals:

  • Increase the number of students to 1,500.
  • Raise $50,000 in additional funds.

Signature Program: Healthcare 2 Unreached

  • 3,500 immunized children and 5,000 who received healthcare education across 6 villages in remote, rural Rajasthan.
  • This is the first time in modern times that SCF partner NGO-HBS systematically maintains registers, records, and follows patients.
  • The infant vaccination rate rose from 13% to 55%.

2014 Goals:

  • Cover 25-30 villages by mobile clinic reaching out to the 50,000-person population with no hospital/clinic within a 25-30 kilometer area.

Uttarakhand Disaster Relief

  • SCF provided a total commitment of $100,000 toward short-term emergencies and long-term rehabilitation.

Women Empowerment

  • Several hundred rural women who benefited from livelihood and skill development programs that are making a significant impact.
  • Most of the enrolled women are currently self-sufficient with good savings.
  • Their children are attending school full-time and enjoying relatively good health.
  • In addition, SCF is probing into some challenging projects to educate and ensure women have security and legal rights with implementation in 2014.

And HAPPY HOLIDAYS from the entire Share and Care Foundation board, executives, staff, and volunteers who could not have worked without your trust, support, and critical thinking. In the spirit of giving, and as an important member of this dynamic community, please consider a gift of $100 or more TODAY. Every gift matters and your support will play a critical role in the extension of SCF programs and their success.

With best wishes in the year ahead. Yours Truly,

Arun Bhansali, President
